How to Organize Lash Trays by Curl, Length, and Thickness

Lash trays organized in acrylic holders with labels for curl type, length, and thickness.
Keep every lash tray scannable with one label format and a fixed storage order, then track low stock so popular specifications never run out.

Organize lash extension supplies in one fixed sequence: service type first, then curl, diameter, and length. That order keeps every tray easy to scan during a full set or refill, even when several close specifications are in use. Use the same label format, shelf order, and restock check across your workstation so a tray always returns to the same place.

Which Specifications Need to Appear on Every Lash Tray Label?

Every label should show enough information to identify the tray without opening it or relying on memory. Put the service family first, then the exact specifications that affect the finished set.

Use this label format: [Service Type] | [Curl] | [Diameter] | [Length or Length Range] | [Status].

A small colored dot or abbreviated brand code can be useful when a studio carries more than one line, but it should never replace the written specs.

Include these fields on every tray or outer organizer slot:

  • Service type: classic, volume, mega volume, premade fan, spike, or specialty style.
  • Curl: such as C, CC, D, L, or M.
  • Diameter: the lash thickness in millimeters, such as 0.05 mm, 0.07 mm, or 0.15 mm.
  • Length: a single length or the full range on a mixed tray.
  • Use status: A reserve tray is an unopened replacement.
  • Optional purchase code: a short SKU or supplier shorthand for accurate reorders.

Write the same fields in the same order on every label.

Sort Lash Trays by Service Type Before Adding Specifications

Separate trays by the service you perform before you sort the finer details. This prevents a classic tray from sitting beside a volume tray simply because both happen to be C curl or 11 mm.

Create a dedicated section for each working family. For example, keep classic lash extensions in one drawer or shelf group and volume eyelash extensions in another. Put specialty trays, such as premade fans or spikes, in their own clearly marked zone rather than mixing them with hand-made volume materials.

Within each service section, use dividers or labeled bins. A compact cart may only need three groups: classic, volume, and specialty. A busy salon may benefit from separate groups for classic, handmade volume, premade fans, and design details. The right number is the smallest number that keeps an artist from searching through unrelated trays.

How Should Curl, Diameter, and Length Appear on Each Label?

Use a two-line label that makes the curl visible before you pick up the tray. Put the service type and curl in the largest type on line one, then place diameter, length, and status in a smaller but readable line beneath it.

For example:

VOLUME | CC 0.07 mm | 11 mm | LOW

This layout makes closely related trays easier to separate at a glance. Keep the curl mark in the same left-hand position on every label, then align diameter and length beside or below it. A drawer divider should repeat the same layout, but the tray label remains the source of truth after a tray moves to a palette.

For a mixed-length tray, keep the printed range visible, such as 8-15 mm, and add a short removable note only for lengths that are depleted or running low. Do not relabel the tray as a single length based on the strips left inside. That note lets an artist see the original range and the actual usable lengths before pulling a strip.

Use a Fixed Storage Order for Faster Tray Selection

Use one left-to-right or top-to-bottom order inside every service section. A reliable default is curl, then diameter, then length from shortest to longest.

For example, a volume drawer could run C, CC, D, then L curls. Inside each curl, arrange 0.03 mm, 0.05 mm, and 0.07 mm from thinner to thicker. Inside each diameter group, line up 8 mm through 15 mm in ascending order. Keep the direction identical in every drawer and on every mobile cart.

Use shallow trays, dividers, or a lash storage organizer that lets labels face upward. The goal is to read the label without lifting a stack. If your current box stores trays vertically, add front-facing dividers and maintain the same sequence from front to back.

Reserve one small “return” section for trays that leave their normal slot during a busy appointment. Reset that section immediately after the client, not at the end of a long day. A temporary home stops a partially used tray from becoming an unmarked tray on the counter.

When Should You Review and Reorganize Lash Trays?

Review trays briefly at the end of each workday and conduct a fuller count once a week. Daily checks catch open trays, misplaced lengths, and low stock while the service details are still fresh. A weekly review lets you compare what remains with your appointment mix and reorder before a popular specification runs out.

Use a simple three-status system:

  • Open: the tray is in regular service and belongs in its labeled slot.
  • Low: one or two usable strips remain, or the lengths you use most are nearly gone.
  • Reserve: an unopened replacement kept away from the active working area.

Move a tray to low status based on the strip or length you actually need, not on how full the tray looks. A mixed tray may appear half full but be missing the 10 mm and 11 mm strips used on most fills. Record that in a stock note, then add it to your reorder list.

Make Every Lash Tray Easier to Find and Reorder

Match your inventory list to the physical order of your trays, then use it at the end of each workday. Check every low tray, add needed specifications to your reorder list, and return open trays to their labeled slots. In a shared salon, assign one person to update the list or require initials beside each change. This simple routine turns tray selection and restocking into a repeatable part of the service day for every artist on the team instead of a last-minute search.

Lash Tray Storage Questions Answered

Q1. How Can Lash Artists Track Partially Used Lash Trays?

Use a small tray card or inventory entry that records the date opened, the artist's initials, and the lengths that have been depleted. This record helps a team confirm how long a tray has been in use and spot recurring demand for a specific length. Review several weeks of entries before changing your regular order quantities.

Q2. Should Lash Trays Be Stored Flat or Upright?

Store lash trays in the orientation that keeps their labels readable and their strips supported. Flat storage works well in shallow drawers, while upright storage works in a divided box with front-facing labels. Choose one orientation per zone and avoid stacking trays so high that lower labels disappear.

Q3. Can Different Lash Brands Use the Same Storage System?

Yes, different brands can use the same storage system if you keep each manufacturer's original label intact and add a removable studio label to the outside. Do not transfer loose strips between trays to make the system look uniform. A secondary brand code lets an artist identify the source quickly if two products use similar curl names or tray layouts.

Q4. What Is the Difference Between a Lash Tray and a Lash Pallet?

A lash tray is the packaged holder that keeps extension strips sorted by their original specifications. A lash pallet is a reusable work surface where an artist places selected strips for one service. Keep the original tray label visible or transfer the specifications to the pallet before moving strips.

Q5. How Should Lash Artists Store Unopened Lash Trays?

Keep unopened lash trays in their original packaging until they are moved into service. Mark the outer storage bin with the received month or purchase reference, then use the oldest matching reserve tray first. This simple rotation makes it easier to trace a replacement order and keeps newer deliveries from being opened before older stock.
